Summer Nights and the National Pastime
Summer is by far my favorite time of the year. Baseball is the national pastime and something I look forward to every year. Ok, my Cleveland Indians are lousy this year and things look bleak for the next year already but still I love watching the games.
I like ending my summer night by turning on my direct TV and watching the tribe play, especially on a cool summer nigh. There is just something about a gentle summer night breeze coming through the window as I watch baseball played on those beautiful green fields.
It more than just visual it is also the sound. The crack of the bat, the call of the umpire and hearing the occasional vendor calling out in the stands are all just something you don’t get with other sports.
The pace of the game also just fits perfectly with summer. The pitcher holding the ball, getting the signal from the catcher, the batter taking a few practice swings then the pitch is delivered. A game that is not constant back and forth like basketball, but more of a strategy game.
So try making a baseball game on TV part of your ritual during the weekend as you wind down at night. It won’t take long for you to understand why this game holds a special place in so many people’s hearts.
