Business Trips Don’t Have to be All Business
It’s important to know your objectives on a business trip and to set out with those goals in mind and to accomplish them. But along the way, something rather amazing happens when you travel on business. You may get to go to some pretty amazing places and get chances to see things you would have never sought out if you have your wits about you as you travel.
Business trips don’t have to be all about business. There are times when you have completed your work and you can take in some of the local color, attractions and good food as part of your visit to an area. The first resource to tap to find out what is really cool to enjoy in the city or town you are visiting are the locals. If you go to a far away town to conduct business with a partner or vendor, they are often more than happy to show you the lay of the land and what is fun to see and do in town.
If you can secure the evening of a local in your destination town, you can get quite an amazing tour of the area and see things that tourists may never find. It isn’t that hard to woo a local to be your guide. If you have expense account money, you can arrange to buy your guide dinner on the company dime. They get a good meal for free and you get a guided tour of the area. The first lobster I ate in Boston happened when a person in the office I was working with took me to see the sights and find the best lobster in town. She got a great meal and I enjoyed the local haunts of one of the great cities in the country.
But don’t be afraid to be a tourist if you are in a great city and you want to see the big sites. If you are in New York and you want to take the tour of the Statue of Liberty and the boat ride around the island, by God, you just do that. It can be a fine memory of your visit to the town and after all, you worked hard on your business objectives while in town so your entitled to some relaxation.
One of the best ways to get some free time to enjoy the local events and attractions is if you are there on Friday but your work must be continued on Monday. Most businesses would rather pay for two nights in a hotel and meals rather than fly you home and back out again. So you can keep your rental car and have two days to simply be a civilian for a while and really explore the local haunts.
To find those unique events in town that not many know about, read the local paper and look for those little local culture or arts papers like the Village Voice in New York. These papers will carry details of festivals going on around the area, what is happening in the clubs and theaters in town as well. You may find a regional celebration not far away that you can be part of and pretend to be a local for a few hours and have plenty of fun along the way.
If you do have a couple days to explore, don’t be afraid to travel a bit to see some things not that far away. On the east coast, a trip up Highway One will move you through some of the most scenic New England towns you can imagine. And you can linger and take a whale watching tour if you want to. If you already have a rental car, usually it is no more expense to use it to see the state or go to the coast nearby where you are doing business. At most it might cost you a tank of gas and for that you may get so see one of the great sights in the country.
Take advantage of your business travel to see the world, have some fun and as the song says “stop and smell the roses along the way”. If you do, you will come home with successful business to deliver to your company and a nice set of new memories to keep for a long time to come.
Snow Boarding Vacation
Around a year ago I went on a snow boarding vacation to Europe and had a great time by all accounts. The best part was that I went with all my friends, all of which had varied abilities in the sport. Some of my friends compete in competitions and the like, whilst others have only been on the slopes a few times in their life. The fact is that we were all really looking forward to it, and we were all sure to enjoy ourselves whilst we were away. The fact is that we do not spend that much time together, as we all went to different colleges whilst others decided to enter the world of work and go out their and get a job.
When we decided to book the holiday I was delighted to hear that everybody was able to make it, and that everyone had promised to save up enough money to really enjoy themselves while we were away. The cost of booking the holiday worked out at around $300 for accommodation for the week as we were going to be staying at a backpacker’s location, and it was only going to cost $150 for return flights. We really felt like we had struck a bargain, and we were even more delighted when we heard that the cost of living would be really cheap when we got their. We had decided to save up $1000 each, which meant that we would have more than enough spending money for when we arrived.
The price being so cheap, some of my friends decided to go online and buy some equipment for the trip and that was anything from new boards to clothing. I personally never bothered, as I was currently struggling for money, surviving merely on the pay that I got for working in a local MP3 player shop.
When we hit the slopes I cannot explain how brilliant it actually was. We had never had an opportunity to ride a snow board on snow, apart from one of my friends who has more of an interest in the sport than the rest of us. We decided that would really just do our own thing, please ourselves and then meet up at night. This is not the way it worked out as we had such a laugh out their on the slopes. My best friend Blair was struggling at first so I done my best to teach him about how to handle the slopes. After a few hours he was doing great, and even managed a nice little Ollie or two. After our hard days on the slopes we couldn’t wait to get home and get a shower. Although it is not cold, when your clothes get wet, it can become very tiring and you often feel like getting in, having a hot shower and changing your clothes.
Next thing it was time to get out their and sample the night life. This is what we had been looking forward to, we had heard great things about European girls, and we were sure to enjoy ourselves getting to know the culture. We firstly went out for a meal, and we all ended up having burger and chips! Next we went to a local club and really had a great night. This was the pattern for the rest of the week and I can hardly say that I regret it.
Exotic Egypt
One of the most interesting places in the African continent is the Egypt, located on the north of this continent. Cairo is the capital city of Egypt. This country has the longest river in the world called the Nile River. It is the river where varieties of flora and fauna are supported to live. Besides the river is also gives the big contribution for society lives also. The mystery of the desert carpet and oases made Egypt a unique place to visit. A popular oasis is called Gilf Kebir, the oases located in the desert with rock paintings from the prehistoric period.
But one of the most interesting sights is the Giza Pyramid. This is one of the seven ancient wonders in the world. There are famous temples called Luxor and Karnak. Luxor is the gateway to valley Kings. Karnak is a place where ram headed sphinx are there.
There is the place where Egypt has its way to the Mediterranean called Alexandria. Here are place where the artwork of history is amazing. If you look for more relaxing view, you may go to the Red Sea, which has its town called Hurgada. Here is the sight where dining and resorts are included. Or if you are a backpacker you must not missed the Dahab, it includes awesome scuba diving.
The Beautiful and Historical Attractions in Istanbul Turkey
Are you passionate with history? Planning to go to tourist objects where history is taking the major factor in the architectures and environments. Visit Istanbul Turkey. This is where people will get amazed of the beauty of the fine architecture and high value of ancient history. Istanbul is the city of Turkey; it is separated into two districts, Old City and New City. Each of them has its own nice places and advantages. The sights that mostly attracted the tourists are: Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome, Archeological Museum and many others.
The legendary Topkapi Palace was built in 1459 by Ottoman, Mehmet II. This palace was built side by side with the Byzantine Palace. Topkapi means Canon Gate, this name was taken from the main sea gate of the defensive walls at that time. These walls were built next to the Byzantine walls.
Blue Mosque was built in 1603, also known as the Sultan Ahmet I Mosque, this one is famous because of the blue Izink tiles that decorate the major interior tiles of the Mosque. This blue color effect give the tremendous view, was the masterwork from Ottoman. It has six minarets and one big dome. Those historical places are the proof of how the great Islam is.
Snow Boarding Holidays
OK so have you ever been on a snowboarding holiday? If so, then you must have enjoyed yourself. The thing about Snow Boarding is that absolutely everybody can enjoy it regardless of their ability. When I first went on a snow boarding holiday it was with my friends and they had all been snow boarding already. This was something that I had never done before, and I was obviously nervous about whether or not I could really enjoy myself when I had absolutely no experience on a board.
But the fact is that I enjoyed it just as much as them, if not more! When you get behind a board something special happens, that I cannot explain. When you are going down a slope, no matter how small, you feel something special when you start to speed up and the acceleration just hits you. I went on the starter slope with my friend who had also never been snow boarding before, but we really enjoyed ourselves. We were firstly given instructions and training by a girl who was an experienced snow boarder. She basically gave us all the hints and tips that we would need to hit the slopes ourselves.
After we had been given the training we also got taught one of the most difficult parts of snow boarding. Yes guys, you guessed it – How to get to the top of the hill on our own. It is really difficult because if you miss-time getting on the lift then you could fall, and if you miss-time getting off the lift then problems can happen just as easily. This is what I always noticed when I was snowboarding because I actually used to get really nervous before I approached the lift. Getting off a snow boarding lift is probably just as difficult for a beginner.
Now let me tell you more about what you can actually get up to on a snow boarding holiday. There is so much to do that it is unbelievable but what I really enjoy the most is how relaxing they are, if not tiring!
You get up in the morning and if you are staying at a hotel, then you really should try and get as big a breakfast as your stomach can handle! Next it is time to hit the slopes, and that it the part that takes up most of the day. When you are deciding what slope to go to you should ask people what slope they prefer and what kind of slope they enjoy. For me this was simple, as I was just a beginner. But as the week went on I did start to get a little braver I have to say. After you have spent your day snow boarding, there is usually lots that you can do on a snow boarding holiday. For a start, you can think of activities that you would do back home. Me and my friends are from the states and we had never been allowed to drink before. So when we went to Europe and we were 20 we could not wait to sample drinking in clubs and pubs around the slopes. This was so much fun, and I have to say that apart from the snow boarding this was the best part of the holiday.
A lot of people ask me if you have to hire out a snow board to go snow boarding on a snow boarding holiday but this is not the case at all. You can easily rent one out when you are over here and it really will not be that much cost at all. My friends are all snow boarders and they decided to hire out snow boards because it actually worked out cheaper than the cost of flying them over on the plane. Whatever you do go on a snow boarding holiday and I am sure that you will really enjoy yourself if you are anything like me.
Mountain Biking Safety Tips
There are numerous ways that you can improve your mountain bike safety. Many riders will tell you that wearing a helmet is the most important step to staying safe. The second most important step is
that you should always ride in control of your mountain bike.
By riding in control you’ll not only prevent crashes, but keep others on the trail safe as well. When riding out of control you loose the ability to adjust to the terrain as you ride over it. This can and usually does result in serious injury to yourself and others.
Follow these helpful guidelines and you’ll remain safe when riding your mountain bike.
Gear
Always make sure that you wear a helmet and other necessary safety gear for the conditions that you plan to ride in.
Never ride beyond your control
There is never any shame in walking the areas of the trail that you don’t feel comfortable in riding and you should never let anyone else tell you that there is.
Valentines Day Activites For Families
It’s important for families to show their love for one another, so what better time than Valentine’s Day to play some game, engage in some fun activities, all designed to show each other love and support?
One fun activity is all about giving each other “snaps” for being who they are. Over the course of the year, mom and dad, and the kids as well, can add “snaps” to a special jar or containers. These “snaps” might include things like “dad helped me build my pinewood derby car” or “Joey read books to his sister each night without complaint”. Read these little slips of good things, thank each other for caring and empty the jar to start it again for another year.
At dinner on Valentine’s night, have each family member tell others why they love them. What about dad made mom love him? Why does Joey love his sister? What about sissy is special to dad? It might seem a little corny at first, but in the end, everyone will enjoy hearing wonderful, positive things about themselves.
One fun family game involves family trivia. This game is particularly fun if the children are a bit older and there are at least 2 children in the family. Mom (or dad) creates a trivia game that looks something like this: there will be a series of index cards with a bit of family trivia on each card. Someone draws a card and tries to answer the question correctly. If correct, they get a point. The person with the most points at the end of the game gets a prize or extra chocolate syrup on their dessert. Some questions might be things like this:
*Which one of us suffered a broken leg at the age of 8?
*Which of us, at the age of 3, flushed an entire box of Tide down the toilet?
*Which of us snuck into mom and dad’s room every night until he or she was 6 years old?
At a certain age, children begin to enjoy preparing meals for mom and dad. For a fun Valentine’s activity, the children could be asked to prepare a meal for mom and dad. Ideally, this would be breakfast in bed and could include foods that are traditional “romantic” foods (like strawberries and chocolate) or whatever the kids want to make. They might even like to prepare a special Valentine’s Day menu and let mom and dad choose off the menu. This would be a fun tradition to start as an annual event on Valentine’s Day.
Consider a fun family game of “hidden hearts”. In this game, children are given clues to find chocolate hearts hidden around the house. The clues can be easy or more complicated to figure out depending on the ages of the children. If one or more children are very young, mom and dad can help them with the clues. When they find the hearts, they can eat them, but mom or dad, remember where you hid the hearts and be sure to count how many are found, so there aren’t any left to get ugly in the house!
Finally, a fun family activity around Valentine’s Day is to make cards for other people. Have the kids make handprint cards for the grandparents or have the kids make cards for their friends. Handmade cards can be so much more meaningful than the store-bought kind and kids learn a lot from the experience of putting their hearts (literally) into making the card for others.
